Water quality impacts of fracking even more serious than previously thought


Mar. 1, 2011 -- The New York Times is reporting in a recent expose on hydraulic fracturing that never before seen data from EPA and drilling industry reports shows that fracking wastewater exhibits high levels of radioactivity, much higher than previously thought and far exceeding federal limits.


To compound the problem, drilling wastewater is often taken to sewage treatment plants that are not designed to treat it properly. The effluent is then released into rivers that supply drinking water.
